    Description
    1970 Pontiac LeMans Sport Convertible
While the Pontiac GTO gets all the accolades and high selling prices to go along with the hoopla, truth be told, its sibling, the LeMans is basically the same car. The LeMans is a great alternative to spending tens of thousands on a GTO, as both cars share the same sheet metal, interior components and most mechanical parts. The 1968 to 1972 LeMans models are among the best-looking Pontiacs ever manufactured and are quite plentiful, with nearly 673,000 built. Finding parts is easy due to a huge supply of parts and a strong aftermarket.
For consignment, the more affordable LeMans Sport convertible from 1970 with the looks of its big brother, the GTO. This particular car has all the looks of a GTO, with its Judge wing and side stripes along with some suspension work to bring it closer to the ground and to make things even better, the top goes down. One beautiful respray of the original color, retaining its factory drivetrain and sporting a newer top but retaining the factory dash make this one serious looker of a survivor. So expand your horizons and take a look at this multiple time best in show winner GTO little brother.
    Exterior
Bathed in a single respray of Granada Gold which covers laser straight steel panels with awesomely minded gaps and everything about this car is straight and true. Some slight flaws can be noted in the paint, but it takes careful inspection to even find them. Bumpers and all chrome are the beneficiary of careful caring through time. Above the front bumper is a split grille which has the Pontiac beak and that is flanked by dual headlights with shiny bezels. That split grille and beak is mimicked by a chrome encircled grille. Down the sides we see added GTO Judge striping that our consignor added for some extra muscle and pizazz. To the rear we see a Granda Gold Judge wing perched atop the trunk lid and below are inset taillights in the back bumper, more straight steel for the rear quarters and trunk lid. Roofline has a beautiful tapered descent by the black 4 year old canvas from the roof to the trunk lid and sports a clean glass in the back. Upsized 15-inch Pontiac Rally II gray and black 5 spoke wheels are all around and these are wrapped by staggered width Cooper Cobra radials with raised white letters.
    Interior
Moving to the interior which is covered in Sandalwood vinyl from the door panels to the seats, which are buckets with adjustable headrests in front and a long and clean rear bench. Door panels are in Sandalwood vinyl and are in very good condition. All seats have a tuck and roll and textured Sandalwood insert and smooth vinyl bolsters. In the back is a matching bench running from side panel to side panel. These nicely preserved seats, with only the driver's lower cushion being replaced, are floating in a sea of gold unfaded carpet. The dash is all original and presents in a darker Sandalwood padding with some wood appliqu for the deep inset circular gauge cluster. Fronting this beautiful dash is a correct wood rimmed steering wheel which has 3 burnished aluminum spokes. A factory radio opening is present and uncut is awaiting a stereo to occupy the horizontal ribbed aluminum pattern trim strip. In the center, a faux wood knobbed shifter resides within a wood applique that dresses the Sandalwood colored plastic console.
    Drivetrain
As the hood opens, we see a lightly patined engine bay with the numbers matching 350ci V8 L30 mill. It is painted turquoise and has chromed valve coverings. On top is a 2bbl carburetor lurking under the single snout black air cleaner assembly which helps this mill make a capable and respectable 255hp. Bolted to the back is a TH350 3-speed automatic which sends power back to the rear axle which is a 10 bolt version. We note that the car is equipped with air conditioning but the belt for the compressor has been removed.
    Undercarriage
Nary a hint of invasive rust to be seen, just a fine mix of surface rust on the usual suspects and black steel mixing with a patina that can only come with age. All is structurally sound and looking dyno-mite! A clean dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers snakes its way rearward, passing independent coil springs up front, and a 4 link with coil springs on the rear. Our consignor states that a suspension drop was performed for better looks and handling and we see tubular lower control arms on the front end. Providing the whoah factory for this GTO's little brother are power front disc brakes and power rear drum brakes. We do note substantial dampness on the left front brake caliper.
    Drive-Ability
A beautiful driver that started right up, and handled our test track passing with flying colors. Good acceleration, nice handling albeit a tad sloppy, nice cruising, and great brakes and we are all safe here. All working functionality save for the AC and the clock not keeping time.
A truly wonderful example of the LeMans Sport. A nice respray, newer black canvas convertible top, and mostly original interior seat coverings and door panels with the original dash with its wood appliqu panel for the instrument background. Time to get your "beak on".
